Blue Cross and Blue Shield are two of the best known companies when it comes to providing health insurance. They have recently moved into the field of providing dental insurance as well. Given their outstanding reputation as a provider of health insurance it should come as no surprise that they offer one of the better dental insurance plans as well. There is however on major caveat, in order to join their dental insurance plan you need to be a member of their health insurance plan as well. It probably isn't a good idea to change your health insurance just to get a cheap dental plan but if you are already getting your health insurance from BCBS it is probably worth looking into.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies are well known for providing health insurance but the now also offer dental insurance as well. Since this insurance is added to your health insurance it can be a great way to save on your dental insurance if you already have coverage with Blue Cross or Blue Shield. In order to be eligible for these plans you will need to be a member of an individual health plan with BCBS. There are four different health plans that you can sign up for and add dental insurance but the dental plan is the same for all users. The cost is very low just seventeen dollars a month for individuals or forty seven dollars for a family.

The dental insurance offered by BCBS is one of the better plans available for the price. The plan comes with a fifty dollar deductible and it covers one hundred percent of the cost of diagnostic and preventative services. That would cover things like checkups, cleanings, and x-rays. The plan also covers seventy five percent of the cost of restorative services like fillings and root canals. More serious issues that require more extensive care are also covered after a one year waiting period. This is pretty typical coverage for a dental plan but the fact that you can combine your dental insurance with your health insurance makes it possible to get dental coverage at a lower price than would otherwise be possible.

Of course signing up for BCBS dental insurance really only makes sense if their health insurance coverage makes sense for you. The cost of the health insurance is much greater than the cost of the dental insurance so it would be silly to run out and sign up for BCBS health insurance just to save money on the dental insurance. On the other hand if you are going to be getting your health insurance from BCBS anyway than it just makes sense to add the dental coverage given that it can be offered at such a low price. Really your health insurance needs to take priority here. That being said BCBS are one of the top providers of health insurance for a reason so it might be worth checking them out.
